    Everybody loves irene

    9 February 2007 2:21 am

    I recieved a very special sms sent by Dhani Ahmad yesterday morning,

    "Everybody loves Irene," I read the text message displayed in my phone screen.

    Suddenly, this famous Irene crossed my mind, and  while browsing malaysiakini before starting my shift at work yesterday evening, a letter wrote by her coincidently attracted to my glance.

    As reading her in Oh Samy! Face the hard facts!, my subconscious working hard to relate between the above ’Everybody loves Irene’ sms with anything written in her today’s published letter. It’s an open letter as well as criticism to the pooh-poohed claims by Works Minister S Samy Vellu.

    "Yes, I also loves Irene for her big contribution and sacrificing her whole life in the name of human rights struggle in Malaysia," I wishpered as my admission on her in the deepest part of my heart.

    As my curiousity to understand why Dhani had told me that ‘Everybody loves Irene’, my hand automatically typing her name on the search engine browser and decided to write and post something on her in this blog.

    Should be the original posting

    At this point, this women had been choosed to be my subject matter. The following paragraphs are few things I had found and written originally means for this posting, as a tribute for Irene Fernandez;

    The Malaysian Proud of Daughter - Irene FernandezThis Irene Fernandez (picture) of Tenaganita is really worth for our loves. I heard about her for the first time while I was in secodary school.

    During that time,she has been charged for publishing ‘false news’ in a report about the ill-treatment of detainees in camps for migrant workers. In 2003, she was found guilty and has been sentenced to one year in prison as the result for the longest criminal trial in Malaysian history (1996 - 2003).

    For 5 years of the trial period for this case alone, she has appeared more than 150 times in court. But, some says it was more than 300 times. She is currently on bail pending an appeal for this case.

    In 2005, she recieved the Right Livelihood Award as an honor for her outstanding and courageous work to stop violence against women and abuses of migrant and poor workers.

    The real story

    After finised and put the link for the above last sentence, I took my attention away from my subject matter for a while and opened the inbox of my email. Then only, I realised that Dhani’s real meaning for his ‘Everybody loves Irene’ sms was nothing to do niether with any form of human rights campaign to ’save Irene Fernandez’ nor relating to her today’s criticism on the pooh-poohed Samy Vellu, as I thought before.

    Anyway, thank so much to Dhani for your alert, though it make me confuse for the first place but some other way I was lucky cause it was indirectly encouraged my efforts to write ‘an uncoincident tribute for Irene Fernandez’. If you want to know what the real story behind Dhani’s sms and email was all about, just click on the following picture.

      "I loves Irene too, as everybody loves Irene,"
