As the coming General Election in Malaysia is just around the corner, I re-post this posting from Get ready to be cheated again….. originally posted by Black.

To all the Malaysian voters please prepare that your dream might not come true….
Especially for those who really hope that the Magic of “Anwar Ibrahim” will make differences, especially for those who already dream to become a minister or members of parliament and for those who still believe that election in Malaysia can make a change….
Why I said this?
No need for me to explain much. I will only list 3 basic things that we needed for the Free and Fair election that we will not get for this coming General Election.
1) Free Media
We don’t have free media. Without free media, we cannot call the election is fair. Even in the first Local Election (Pilkada) in Aceh, Indonesia the media coverage is fair for all the candidates. Even for the candidates who came from GAM (Acehnese Independent Movement) got a good media coverage and they turned to be the Governor and Vice Governor of Aceh now. (Based on my experienced observing the Pilakada in Aceh as a Long Term Observer last November- December 2006)
One more example, for the first Presidential Election (2004) and Parliamentary Election (2005) of Afghanistan, even though the whole world knew that Hamid Karzai is the puppet for US, the candidates from Taliban camp still got the fair coverage from the media. (Based on my experienced observing the Presidential Election of Afghanistan 2004 and Parliamentary Election of Afghanistan 2005)
Okay if the media is not free, the opposition should have the right to have own TV, newspaper and radio station. But this is not happening in Malaysia. It’s true that PAS had Harakah and DAP had rocket, but why they didn’t get the right to print their own newspaper everyday like all the mainstream media? So, how can we expect the voters can get the freedom of information? How the voters can know about all the candidates who will contest in the election?
2) Indelible Ink
Phantom voters are one of the hot issues regarding the Election in Malaysia. I would not explain about it but I want to question why it’s so difficult for SPR to introduce the use of indelible ink in the election? If SPR want to use the religious reason, go and meet Ulama in Indonesia, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Almost all Asian countries already used this method to prevent multiple voting for example Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cambodia and etc. (Based on my experienced observing the elections in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand)
Is it because of its too expensive? Come on, don’t fool the people LAH… Sri Lanka and Indonesia is poorer than Malaysia but yet they still had the Indelible Ink. So for this reason, I believe that SPR knew about the Phantom Voters issues but they just want to deny it. So do you still think this coming election will be free and fair?
3) International Election Observers
SPR might say that the domestic observers are bias and working for opposition party. I don’t agree with this statement but the domestic observers still have the right to vote and the findings might not neutral. This is still reasonable even though I’m totally not agreed. We can talk about this in other posting.
What SPR can do is, allow the International Election Observers to come and observe our election. Give them the accreditation.
International Election Observer is not bias to any candidates and political parties. Plus they don’t have the right to vote in our country. The findings will be on what they found during the observation.
The International Election Observers can make our election more credible both to the local and international communities. From the experienced of 1999 and 2004 election, SPR refused to give the accreditation to the International Election Observation body who came to observe the Malaysian election.
If the election is free and fair, why SPR is so afraid to allow the International Election Observer to observe our election?
I will be happy if the chairman of SPR can answer all this questions before the general election that predicted by the political analyst to be this year. For Khairy Jamaluddin, if you are a real gentleman, protest about the questions that I mentioned above. Don’t talk about this; because we all know what your party did in Terengganu in 2004 election.
Do you still think that this coming general election will bring a change?
